Wiring Standards/Procedures

Introduction

IT 7 is the designated room to be design. Our team uses and follows the two standards of the network cabling which is the straight through and cross-over. Based on the standards if were connecting PC-to-PC we are going to use the cross over. The topology that were using is the star topology, why star topology because star topology uses switches and it is the most appropriate to use in designing in a room. The best wires and connector to be use in this room is the CAT 5e UTP for the good performance, capacitance, frequency, resistance, and attenuation.

Standards

There are two wiring standards for network cabling.

T568A and T568B are the two standards for the RJ-45 or 8-position modular connector, permitted under the TIA/EIA-568-A wiring standards document.

The only difference between T568A and T568B (also known as Weco, AT&T 258A) is that the orange and green wire pairs (pairs two and three) are interchanged.

Topology

In order to achieve a high performance network, we decided to make it a star topology.
Using this topology connects the clients to other clients and to the server by the use of switch.

Wires/Connector

The best wire category that may suite to our network is CAT 5e UTP cable since using this category gives a good performance in capacitance, frequency, resistance, and attenuation.

CAT-5e is formally called ANSI/TIA/EIA 568A-5 or simply Cat-5e (the e stands for 'enhanced'). CAT-5e is completely backward compatible with current CAT-5 equipment. The enhanced electrical performance of CAT-5e ensures that the cable will support applications that require additional bandwidth, such as gigabit Ethernet or analog video.

For the connector, we will use RJ 45 since we are going to use UTP cable. The RJ-45 connector is commonly used for network cabling and for telephony applications. It's also used for serial connections in special cases.

Procedure

The room is located at the 3rd floor of CICT building with --- wide and ---- long. We will design a connection for 25 computers including the server. The computer will be divided into 3 (with out the server) makes 8 computer for each segment. The server will be placed on the front of the room.

We will use 4 switches on this network. The 3 switches has the capacity of 8 connection so it means that the three switch will became one segment connecting 8 computers. 1 of the switch serves for main switch which is connected to server and to the 3 switches. The switches will be placed on the upper part of the wall as shown.

The wire will be CAT 5e cable with a RJ 45 connector. The wire will be ensured its safety for being pulled or stretched by embedding the wires on the floor when the connection is on the floor and by putting a plastic protector on when the wire is on the wall.
